"Why can't business presentations be like music?"

I've been asking myself this question ever since my time as a sales manager and passionate singer.

October 1st is International Music Day – a wonderful opportunity to remember how powerfully music touches, fascinates, and captivates us. And honestly, good presentations should be able to do that too, right?

Both music and truly outstanding speeches and presentations have the potential to inspire people and leave a lasting impression.

As a professional speaker and singer, my goal is clear: I want to captivate my audience! And that's exactly what I want for business presentations as well. Instead of boring ourselves with monotonous voices and overloaded slides full of numbers and small print, we can achieve so much more if we take a page out of music's book.

Emotions make all the difference – even in presentations. A Nielsen study shows that up to 90% of (purchasing) decisions are based on emotions. So it's not just about numbers, but about what truly resonates.

Music is a universal language; it speaks directly to the heart. But in many presentations, I hear complex sentences and technical jargon that hardly move anyone. Yet it could be so simple: With vivid language and storytelling, you can achieve so much more. A Stanford study even shows that pitches with storytelling are 22 times more memorable than those that rely solely on facts.

And let's be honest, music thrives on variety, on highs and lows, on different tones and rhythms. Presentations should be the same. A voice that is vibrant and varied captivates the audience. It doesn't all have to be so serious and monotonous—we can make the whole thing exciting and engaging, like a really great song!

And then there are the messages that stick with us. Songs like "Let's get loud!", "I will survive!", or "You're simply the best!" They have power and stick in your mind. Honestly, how many business presentations have such a clear message?
